does it have to be "live" animals?

ving
07-09-2006, 04:26 PM

Ah Eric, Sorry, I despise those JR's so much. Our neighbours have two and now a whole bunch of puppies too! They are horribly aggressive and never shut up.

Ah yes the dreaded cat hair,
after ten years with the "Velc" there is not one piece of clothing that I own that has not been coated and given the mohair look. Still he's a great lad and a great mouser except for the time he got a rat and brought it home, it wasnt dead and got loose in the house. Took me a whole day to track it and get it back outside.

The two next door are everything but cute they ain't! They have busted through the fence, came into our house, crapped on the kitchen floor, and then bit my housemate when he tried to take them outside. Every time I go into the back yard they charge for the fence barking visciously like they want to tear you to pieces. I often cannot observe in peace because these horrible little beasts just won't shut up. I suppose they could have been trained to behave but I don't think the owner ever bothered to try. Sometimes he yells at them to shut up; it has nil effect.

Jack Russels are working dogs and need lots of exercise to keep them from going stircrazy. Our 16yr old kelpie still goes for at least 1 walk a day to keep her sane.
I don't envy you living next to them.

Iceman, that's cheating. I recognise that lion, he's the original Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer lion, and he's paid to sit in front of cameras. Professionals aren't allowed in an Amateur Astronomy Community!

That would have to be one of the best lion shots I have seen. EXCELLENT!

Regards,

Mike

And as for the tiger, I expect he has been getting some coaching from his neighbour, the lion. Another example of cheating!

Brilliant capture!

Dujon, a nice take on this month's subject. I greatly appreciate a dry and somewhat ridiculous sense of humour. Well done.
I'm still trying hard to get what I want, but time is running out, and I may be pushing it a bit.

28-09-2006, 05:32 PM
:lol2: no they weren't put down, the public outcry forced the council to backpedal and come up with an alternative, I can't remember how much was raised but it was a serious amount of money, I think around $80,000, shows the nicer side of humanity I guess. These monkeys (or their descendants) were around in the city park when I was a kid (40+years ago)

Terry, can I ask what type of spider is that? looks like a trapdoor/funnelweb type spider? :eyepop:

Ric
29-09-2006, 06:49 PM
Great picture John, Looks like they are getting their mandatory 22 hours sleep in. That leaves 1½ hours for washing and amusing the humans and ½ an hour for feasting

Hello answer to the Spider question it is commonly called a "Bird Eating Spider" or "Australian Tarantula".
The writes up warn you about them being aggresive and dangerous but she has never shown any interest in biting me at all.
some info here.

Terry, it's interesting to see in the article you linked that the beasts make a high pitched noise at times. The reason for that comment is that on a number of occasions I've thought the same about Huntsmen (I catch and release, not kill). To date I've not mentioned this to anyone as I thought I was going bonkers - my hearing's not what it was forty years ago.

I should probably put this under 'chat', but seeing as the subject has been raised . . .

To everyone else, I'm most impressed with the entries this month. Well done.

Thanks Terry, so I was on the right trail, it is in the trapdoor family I read on another webpage. some webpages say their bite is rather bad!
