My first attempt at a 2 by 2 mosaic, each panel was composed of 25 frames 120s each (halpha).
Full resolution: http://www.astrobin.com/148715/
Colour version will crystalize one day in hopefully near future...

That looks great Slawomir, nice soft rendering of the gas with few stars, that 3nm Ha really blocks the stars and shows of the neb. Actually, it's interesting to compare to my single frame version (http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/141736113/original)taken with the AG12/big 16803 combo and a comparitively much wider band pass 12nm Astronomik ha, heaps more stars in mine huh? I think I like yours better
Hope you get a colour version but like the Horsehead the Carina neb lends itself to B&W quite nicely.

Thank you Bo, Scott and Michael :)
Mike, I think your version is heaps better!
I shoot from a balcony and unfortunately miss two best hours when Carina is the highest in the sky, I finally need to get over crippling laziness and go somewhere with unrestricted sky views, perhaps in autumn/winter when the weather will be more conducive for astrophotography.

Very nice, Slawomir! You can even see the Fickle Finger there near the Keyhole.
Cheers,
Rick.

I am not an imager so will not offer any technical comments, but I love that shot. Composition is lovely, the evenness of the exposure, the clarity in the contrast between the nebulosity and the dark lanes.
All really nice.
And I agree, Eta Car is a target that jumps at you when in monochrome.
Cheers

Thank you Malcolm for encouragament and your very kind feedback. I agree with you- there is a lot going on in this nebula and many dynamic features are highlighted when in monochrome.
This image was an experiment; I wanted to see if I am capable of making mosaics. I will collect new data with slightly longer exposures and with more careful timing regarding positioning of the Carina in the sky, possibly over four or so nights. This will hopefully result in a higher quality image.
Thanks

Truly superb shot. :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
I'm shocked at how well that image is with only 120s exposures. Currently working on 20 x 1800 myself. Now after seeing this, I ask myself why. ;-)

Thank you :)
Looking forward to seeing you version jg :)
I am planning to have another go at the Carina, with longer exposures, to see whether with my current gear longer exposures can make a noticeable difference.
Interestingly, imaging session for this photo started with the Carina only 30 degrees above the horizon on a very humid night. I was also picking up some reflections from the ceiling on my balcony.
Thank you Rod.
