I've always been a bit of a fan of clever journalism, and I remember hearing about a great headline in the New York Post a long time ago:
"Headless bpdy in topless bar". I don't know if that was real, but I saw a cracker the other day after reading about the daughter of the Korean airlines CEO, also an executive, who while sitting in First class, was served macadamias in a packet rather than a bowl. She went ballistic at the Flight attendant, and eventually demanded the the flight, which was taxiing to the runway, return to the gate to kick off the chief flight attendant. The headline was: "First Class Nut Case".
Wish I'd thought of that one.

I remember the year Pat Cash beat Ivan Lendl at Wimbledon (1986?) and the headlines read "Cash bounces dud Czech".

ha ha yes one from the 70's when we loved whitlam the headline read "goughs going great!" and soon thereafter "goughs going; great!"
shows the power of the english language just with the use of a comma or a semi colon!

In the late 1950's Sir Vivian Fuchs was a noted Antarctic explorer. Many people, and the British tabloids in particular, had fun with his name. For example -
"Sir Vivian Fuchs off to Antarctica" and "Sir Vivian Fuchs off again"!! Crude but clever and amusing, in a schoolboyish way.

I like the one when Inverness Caledonian beat Celtic 3-1 and the headline read:

"Super Caley go ballistic, Celtic are atrocious"

and...when Birmingham boss Steve Bruce had to decide whether or not to punish midfielder Nicky Butt after the player stormed out of the team hotel before a game at West Ham after finding out he was dropped.:

"Brum promise internal Butt probe"

...ahem...

I've heard the first one, but that Nicky Butt one made me LOL. Appeals to my very childish sense of humour.
