Helix in HA with 10 inch scope

Howdy
heres a so so image of the Helix in Ha.
2x 18 mins, hurried proceedure to try and get at least 2 shots before cloud rolled in, moon 3/4 full.
7 Nm Baader Ha filter 10 inch F5.6 scope, modded 350D. Warmish night, lots of noise in original shots, used a dark taken a few weeks ago, but was keen to try the Ha filter on the Helix with the 10 inch scope.
I will need quite a few more shots under better conditions with several darks taken at same night to get a decent result.
I wish I had Strikers cooled camera :)

The helix is a much harder target I ever thought to image.

Like you said you need the conditions and plenty of exposure time to get any type of good result.

Its not bad at all especially given the condition. Tony's right it is a lot harder than first imagined. the key i think will definitely be lots and lots of exposures! and good darks...and good dark skies...and no wind....and no planes...and and and

but it's worth it in th end given how beautiful it is

Haha Houghy.

Having the camera cooled is not a massive improvement......it will help on those warm nights up here and for really long exposures but my worst enemy is sky glow that kills the image before I can take the length of exposure needed to get the best benifit from a cooled camera.

Cant wait to give it a trial on my Fast 8" F4 Schmit Newt for 20-30minutes at a dark site.

Howdy Tony, is that one of the Meade LXD models? Yep youre right, after seeing Octanes magnificent effort on Corona Australia from a recent Kulnura night that I as at too, I definately need access to a darker sky then in Newcastle, at least for other then narrowband imaging anyway. I shudder to think how deep I could go if I had Berts Flourite F2.8 lens at a really dark site.

Next clear sky I might try doing what I did with the Eagle Neb. a stack of shorter 5 Min. ISO 1600 shots and see how that goes.
