For local members who are keen for a get together, I'm planning an observing
evening on the date above. Coombell is a 25 kms drive south of Casino along
Summerland Way. Will post maps shortly. There is a large observing area with
nice dark skies, except the light dome to our north-east which is pretty much
obscured by trees. If you would like to do some imaging 240 power will be
available, but you may need to bring an extention cable.

I should also mention we do have a train track with activity on it during the
night, although this has never worried me when I've planetary imaging it
might up set others, but then again it depends where you might want to
image from.

For those that might like to come and would have to travel some distance,
there is ample area to pitch tents. You would also have to bring your own
food, cooking gear and drinking water.

Yup! my old Ford is starting to run a lil rough, time for another engine.
We were going to buy another car, but the missus wants a few other
things so we're going to do a fix up job hopefully it'll last another 2-3
years. The road out here is a lil rough. I think we'll wait until we move
to get another car. Need tyres all round too! and have to look at the
AC before summer hits too hard. The old window AC doesn't work real
good up here on the north coast.

Was laying concrete yesterday, after a shower and a couple of cold ones
I was up to anything much... nothing like shoveling wet sand all day.
But the skies did look really nice, I laid back on the trampoline for awhile
just looking up. I need some bino's :(

Hi Glen,

Yes it is looking promising :) I can see all the way across to Wyan which
is roughly 15-20kms SW.

Have you spoken to that chap in Leeville? the folks in south Casino
campervan park are also welcome to come out.

Beautiful here tonight, not a cloud in sight, jetstream is looking good. But
there is star twinkle  must be something burning somewhere or some
upper atmosphere misty bits coming through. There was a nice looping
prominance on o'l sol this afternoon, the same prom @ 8am this morning
looked like a cascading waterfall. It's funny how you tend to look at some
objects and relate them to real word objects. A couple of weeks back
there were a prom/flare that looked like a couple people walking along,
not animated of course.

How about we meet at 6pm at the 50 kph sign coming into Casino on the Bruxner Hwy from Lismore? I will bring my 10". My car is a white Peugeot 307.

Graham,

It's up to you, but we're only 20kms south of Glen/Casino. From the 50kph
sign Glen is talking about, add 3-4kms for the Casino drive through.

Come out any time after mid afternoon if you want. Give yourself some day
light to setup if you need. Looks like it's going to be just us three, not sure
if Glen has invited anyone else.

I can call in a ride home ..But .. my scope won't fit .:mad2:

Congrats Alex on the new addition!!

Np's Graham, we have to do it again!! most enjoyable night

Glen,

Barnards Galaxy 6822, Alberio, Kron 3 (Lindsay 8) & Kron 7 (sorry they
weren't tarzan 7 & 9 my mistake), V Aql (carbon star) might of been a couple
of others but I think you have them all listed

Had a lovely time, nice to have some folks over for a change. You guys are
most welcome to come out anytime you want. I think Steve from Casino
was really happy about seeing so many objects. I loved the quote " I see
more galaxies in this FOV than I have period"

Rob

PS: Glen, were you able to determine whether you could detect N206? I'm pretty sure
I picked it up, and I'm sure I nab it in the 8" on the night previous.

glenc
16-10-2006, 05:23 AM
Yes congratulations Alex. Grandkids are easier than kids.

Rob I had 6882 instead of 6822, have fixed it. I saw 206 too.
We saw about 70 objects in 3 hours.

Also had a close encounter with a roo on the way home.
It was 10km S of Casino, and we missed.

And I hear Australia won!
