Pitatus from 2nd Sept

Hello,

Here is an image of Pitatus from 2nd Sept. This avi and my previous Copernicus image were the only ones worth processing from that session as the seeing collapsed quite quickly soon after.

Pitatus is situated on the South bank of Mare Nubium and measures 100x100Km. According to VMA, Pitro Pitati was a 16th century Italian Mathematician and astronomer. For comparison, I have also attached a Lunar Orbiter image of Pitatus from VMA.

Very nice, Dennis. I love the rilles running around the inside edge of the crater.

It's a shame the seeing deteriorated for you, as I always enjoy your images and presentation.

Where are you getting clear skies from? I have only had two nights in the last 2 weeks where it's started clear, and both times I've driven out to my dark site, set up and the clouds rolled over!:rolleyes:

Mike – I was contemplating a mosaic from Pitatus, through Tycho, Clavius and the lunar limb, but after I captured Pitatus and moved onto the next image, the seeing had already gone off and although I did persevere and image the rest of the “to be” mosaic, everything just turned to mush.

Al - The skies have been clear in the early evening, followed by clouds rolling in turning to showers the last few days, so I've been playing cat and mouse with the weather.

Thanks! Just checking to confirm you haven’t mixed them up - my image is the "less than sharp" one on the left, whilst the much sharper Lunar Orbiter image is the one on the right. :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

lovely detail there denis. the crater below pitatus stands out to me as it has a rather interesting crater withi in it :)
