If you are in the Perth area and interested in buying a 5" f12 achromat refractor and mount then please get in touch by PM (private message via the forum membership).

This is a visual use telescope that excels on solar system objects such as the moon and planets and also does very well on deep space objects and star clusters etc.

The scope and mount are all home made by me and are made from quality materials. The scope is large and bulky but is very simple to operate and would suit a beginner. It is not suitable for astrophotography.
The tripod tray can be removed and the tripod legs folded in to make transport easier but you will still need a station wagon or van to transport it. It is great as a back yard telescope for casual star gazing.

The telescope works just like a dobsonian reflector in that the tracking is all by hand. This makes it very easy to move from one object to another and also means that the telescope can be lifted straight off the mount.

The lens is an Istar 5" f12 doublet and is in excellent condition. The focuser is a William Optics Crayford. There is a William Optics 2 inch diagonal included as well as 40mm and 26mm GSO eyepieces. The finder scope is a 8x50 GSO with adjustable bracket.

I am asking for $1000 for the scope, mount and accessories as described.
It will need to be picked up in person as I have no intention of packing it for freight.

I will consider offers or part trades, please get in touch to discuss.

There is more information on the construction of this telescope here;

The reason I am selling it is because I have other telescopes similar to this one and am trying to reduce my collection.
