I took my old Eta Carinae data and used the new process as discussed in the Tarantula thread.
Since the (SII-OIII) mask showed a fair SII signal remaining I mapped the SII signal to magenta. Ha and OIII were mapped to red and cyan respectively.
High resolution here.

I'm fairly pleased with the result.
I will now try it out on more challenging objects.
Comments welcomed.

Love that color mapping of yours. Really suited for this shot too.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Good to see someone having fun playing around with processing styles and processes Steve, makes for some interest in our hobby :)

Nice work Steve. It seems to bring out some nice pastel shades.

Thanks Marc.
Thanks Mike.
There is an objective to this, namely to produce a real colour image using narrowband filters and at the same time not sacrificing contrast enhancements one gets from these filters.
Thanks Greg.
Not really keen on some of the shades which come from the SII contribution.
This is surprise Alex. Do you frequently visit this forum?

Brought out further detail in the shadow areas and reduced SII contribution in image.

As per the Tarantula image, the OIII mask background was normalized relative to the Ha mask giving a more accurate account of the OIII and Ha distributions in the image.
Strongly cyan indicates the OIII emission is dominant, blood red Ha dominant.
In between colours indicate OIII and Ha in different ratios.

Hi Steve,
So sharp & plenty of detail.
I like the processing - it's looks very natural in the latest revision.
cheers

That's a pretty spectacular Eta Steve. Some nice pastel shades there.

hi Steven,
I really like this, it does look very natural for narrowband!
Keep them coming,

In order to prevent star colours being skewed during the mapping process, the stars were removed from the OIII and Ha masks.

I have tested this process on NGC 1955 which is strong in Ha and weak in OIII to see if the colour balance was preserved without the creation of "false" OIII colour.
No OIII emissions were enhanced in the process thereby resulting in a correct colour balance being preserved for this object.
