Simeis 147 aka Sharpless 2-240 aka the Spaghetti Nebula is a supernova remnant on the border of Taurus and Auriga. This is another mosaic project (3x3, this time) from SRO using the Tak FSQ-106ED and QSI683. There's now enough Ha to stitch together the mosaic but many of the panels still need more subs. I have done an experimental colouring of the mono Ha just to add a little interest.

Hopefully, I'll have a decent amount of Ha per panel and also some RGB data in the coming month or two, but in the meantime...

Cheers,
Rick.

That must be a huge target Rick. A delicate, promising start.

It's between 3 and 4 degrees in diameter and very faint, Simon. Looks like it will make a decent image if the weather behaves...

Cheers,
Rick.

Love this DSO, can't wait to see the finished version when it's been "Rickified".

Btw - any tips on how to begin shooting/processing a mosaic?
Cheers
Andy

Another one to print on metal or canvas and hang on the wall perhaps? Love your dedication and persistence mate all the while maintaining your unhubristic friendly approach, great stuff

I tried this one with the old Vixen DED108SS over a year ago - it would JUST clear the neighbours roof line.

It's FAINT alright - I thought I had NOTHING in the subs until I mega-screen stretched them.

GREAT start Rick. I could almost squeal :) :P

Ta, Andy.

I'm no mosaic expert but I've learned from a couple of mistakes that it's important to plan in advance, use plate solving to make sure your panels are centred in the right spot with the right PA, and have plenty of overlap between panels. Then take a sub for each panel and make sure they fit together well before you invest too much time.

Could be, thanks Mike :D

Ta, Lewis. Hoping for a good finish as well ;)

The detail in your images never ceases to amaze me. Look forward to viewing the final product.

Oh, so jealous! The rich field scope really comes into its own on this one. Very beautiful, and well captured.

Thanks, Rob. Detail is easier when you've got 9 x 8 megapixels to play with!

We're all jealous of your optical behemoth, Mike, but there are some objects that suit a tiny scope better :) Thanks very much.

Nice work so far Rick

I know how dim this object is, what exposure length are you using for the Ha subs

Thanks, Geoff. Doing 30 minutes x 2 binning.

That's a wonderful result Rick and the hi-Res version is a pleasure to look at.

Thanks, Russell & Trev! It's a very cool object. I'm looking forward to finishing this image with some more Ha and RGB. We managed to pick up a few more hours over the last couple of nights. Unfortunately, the moon was too close to image right through full moon.

Cheers,
Rick.

Ta, Rob! The weather hasn't been great lately but hopefully it will improve soon and we can get some more winter targets.

Cheers,

Excellent Rick. Despite being whispy, looks very sharp.

Thanks, Fred. It's a big object, but dim, and the capture image scale is around 4 arcsec/pixel. It would take some terrible seeing to make it look blurry although bad focus would do it :)

That's just gobsmacking Rick. The object is interesting and unusual and you've done a nice job of rendering it.
