Sooo...has anyone seen the last instalment to the Peter Jackson Hobbit Trilogy, Battle of the Five Armies?

Along with this movie I am hanging out to see one movie in particular, The Imitation Game with Benedict Cumberbatch cast as mathematician and cryptanalysis Alan Turing whom worked with a team at Hut 8 at Bletchley Park and were responsible for breaking the Enigma codes.

Another movie, which I will have to wait until it comes to DVD, The Penguins of Madagascar. Don't ask me why but I love these guys.

Saw the hobbit yesterday. It was visually spectacular as always but the violence was over the top. I reckon Bilbo Bagins stole the thing hands down... Worth watching but...

I got to see half of it on boxing day before being evacuated from the cinema :( Looked as good as I expected.

I saw it yesterday and thought it was the best of the Hobbit movies with the first one being quite poor, the 2nd one a lot better and this one as good as the Lord of the Rings movies.

Saw the five armies on boxing day.
Very good.
I was surprised by the number of decapitations.

Saw The Battle Of The five Armies today, like the 1st 2 instalments it not quite in the spirit of the book, the battle scenes are over the top, but is visually spectacular as a movie and great entertainment.

Saw the last installment of The Hobbit Sunday :) Being a fan of Tolkien's books it's been great to see the translation of both the LOTR trilogy and Hobbit to the big screen the last 15 years. The opening scenes to the Battle of the five armies was superb, overall just great entertainment but yes some of the gratuitous violence could of been toned down. Always thought the casting was excellent through all the films. Wonder if anyone will be game enough to translate "The Silmarillion " to film :D

Saw The Imitation Game last night which is a drama that describes
some of the events in the life of British mathematician Alan Turing.

A key focus of the film is a depiction of the period at Bletchley Park
cracking the German Enigma code using the electromechanical bombe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombe).

The title of the film borrows from the famed Turing Test (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test).

Computer scientists will also be aware of Turing's seminal work on
computability theory, including the halting problem and the deeply
mathematical concepts surrounding the Universal Turing Machine.
None of these are directly mentioned as it would be difficult to weave
them into a screenplay of a movie that could then keep the audience engaged.

Though this mathematical work is a legacy that will stand the test of time
like Pythagoras, Turing's war-time efforts in recent history are staggering
enough that audience members, whether they already know the story
or not, will come away with a sense of awe in his tenacity and genius.
