Hey all - new member here. I've been lurking for a while on the forum but finally got myself a scope.
My xmas gift was a lovely 10" skywatcher dob. Sadly it's been raining each night since it was given to me, so I haven't had a chance to use it yet! But def looking forward to learning about the sky for the next year or so before buying more gear and stepping into the astrophotography game!
Looking forward to using it and thanks to Astro Petes for helping my girlfriend pick it out!

Hi Tim,
Welcome to IceInSpace :welcome:
That's a fantastic scope to use.
You will see heaps of good stuff.
I recommend you download a FREE planetarium software to help you find your way around.
Stellarium is my favourite.

Excellent choice. Wrong place.
Brisbane seems to be the centre of the cloud world.
Been up in Hervey bay for xmas and its been clear every night.

Clear night tonight - managed to get a good look at the moon, Jupiter and m42!
Pretty darn happy from my overly lit street/suburban house!
Only thing I want to invest in now is a right angle corrected image finder. Neck gets a bit sore looking straight up!

YES! One of my first modification/purchases.
The Skywatcher one is about $100 (well mine was) and worth every cent.
Also, a red dot finder (at around $50) to get you pointing in the rough area is something I would recommend to compliment ease of use.
Next, a comfortable, portable, height adjustable, observing chair.
(Gas-lift adjustable stool from Aldi for $49 for use at home;
Bintel folding observing chair for when travelling to dark sites $269)

Got my sw neq6 mount at Astro Pete's. Great Little shop.
Was out last night marveling at the almost flat guide graph.
Oh and the clearish sky.
No cloud but poor transparency.
Happy New year Tim and all the rest of you
