I plan to have a viewing night on Fri 15/9 at North Casino?
If it is cloudy on 15/9 we can try again on Fri 22/9.
A man called George just phoned in response to an add in the local paper and he is coming.

Hi Glen,

I'm keen, put me down as tentative... as you know Lynne is in her last
stages of pregnancy... if the lil one comes early I maybe able to make
it... hopefully I can make one of the nights you have mentioned above
but not sure how long I will be able to stick around, so I probably wont
bring my scope with me.

Do those stats tell you how many of those clear days were around new
moon? it seemd for me that nearly every new moon this year has been
clouded out, very annoying... and then it if was clear we had a lovely
jetstream going across : (

I suggest about sunset so you can set up before it gets too dark.
Astro twilight ends at about 7pm.

I'm hoping I can jump on your sky tour, as I wont be bringing my scope this
time. Or possibly have a lend of your bino's for a lil bit, to nab some of the
larger dark nebula I have been chasing. Lynne is staying home tonight. We
will be new parents again a week from Monday. If she does go into labour
before hand, which is the reason I'm not bringing my scope. She'll have your
number in case she needs me.

Looking forward to catching up, and meeting Graham (nightstalker) and the
local folks. I'll probably get there between 6-7pm.

CoombellKid
21-09-2006, 06:43 PM
Yup! you guy's are more than welcome to come out here, as I cant go

CU Saturday night if its clear.

Graham
If you can't make it to Robs tomorrow you can come here tonight.

Tried to contact Alex but no luck so far.

Did the slab for my 3x3m observatory last Wednesday.
The picture below shows the view to the south.

CoombellKid
22-09-2006, 12:10 PM
Glen,

You more than welcome to invite any of the other locals that might
like to come out here. Includding you Graham it will be nice to meet
you.

The slab is looking good!! just need some walls and it located a further
25kms south lol.... you can put the walls on it first. Oh and that 10" dob
that you may not need after next month : )

regards,CS

PS: I used my new modified dob last night for the first time. I have to tell
ya!!! I'm loving this sit down astronomy stuff already. It's only taken me
4.5-5yrs to figure that one out. And the ability to point anywhere an shoot
_without_ having to twist the darn OTA so the ep is in a useable possy.

glenc

Tonight is looking good. There is a fair bit of haze down low(I am on the river flat at moment) I am hopeful that it will not be a problem. I will be here until this afternoon, I will go up home about 3-30 and let you know before I go if it looks crook.. I will be out for a while so organise what you like and I will be back later.

12+ surface filiments on o'l Sol this morning. Yesterday I could barely get
focus.

Anyways chap's, looks like my place is out tonight. Looks like we might
have a baby on the way :scared: and cant guarantee we'll be here. Graham
I think Glen is heading out to Alex place tonight, check with Glen or Alex.

Have fun where ever you are

Went up to Alex's place last night.
It was clear and very dark.
The top of the hill has good horizons.
Looked at lots of DSOs with his 12" dob.
Used my UHC filter for some nebulae.
There was a nice carpet snake in the bathroom.
It was 100km from my place, the last 10km gravel.

GrahamL
24-09-2006, 09:26 AM
sounds a good night guys
hows the 12" compare to your 10" glen ?

30 knot winds chased me inside early .

glenc
24-09-2006, 10:20 AM
12" is brighter.
Look forward to getting mine.

glenc
24-09-2006, 10:37 AM
I suggest we organise our astronomy viewing nights under the above heading. We can have these at different places near new moon.
The next one will be at Robs on 20/10 I think???
What do you think?

xelasnave
24-09-2006, 12:01 PM
Yes a great night and Glen found some things that I had looked for thru the 12 inch but never found moved on and forgot it. I was very happy to see the Saturn Neb as this object is one that I have seriously looked for and never seen. There were others but that is memorable for me.
I followed the world champ poker and went out again ,mustta been 2am on wards but it was clearer than earlier and with the Milky way gone so much darker guving better contrast.
It was the first time I had experienced the benefit of a contrast filter and very impressed.
It was a great buzz for me because as I said to Glen apart from one neighbiur and the JW's years ago he has been my only "real" visitor and the first time I have been in the company of an astronomer (other than in a shop)

Congratulations to mum and dad.
I thought it might be twins.
Does that double the population of Coombell?

CoombellKid
25-09-2006, 07:53 PM
LOL, actually I think we increased to population by around 10%

Yes Hayden was born 09:00am this morning at Grafton Base Hosp'
weighing in at 8.10lb and 52cm tall

Alex, I'm with you. I've been in this hobby only about 5yrs. But
have only got together with other folk 4 x and 2 of them were
astrofest QLD. You'll have to try and make it up there next year
it alot of fun and a heap of scope and folks to meet.

I think Glen's idea is a good one! we should try and organise some
get togethers. Maybe rotate around the place, I think it would be
good. I'm cool for my place next month whatever date suits, a
week either side of new moon. Glen when are you heading down
south? what date would you prefer? if any
