Hi,

Comet C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) from tonight 23-12-14.

Tail is very spectacular, showing knots and possible disconnection.
Shades of comet Lemmon from 2013.

Cheers,

Justin.

Very nice!
I had to do a double take when I was processing this guy because I thought I'd accidentally snagged my old Lemmon data when I was setting up the PI scripts!

Thanks Graeme!

Thanks Kevin!

Terry must be chuffed with the way his comet is performing.

Cheers,

Justin.

good one Justin.
I agree the knot could be a solar wind disconnection event of the ion tail, or could be the start of more activity being affected by comet nucleus rotation.

kind regards, Alan

fantastic shot Justin, look at that tail detail.

I finally managed to take a quick peak of Q2 lastnight. unfortunately it was a quick and dirty look with an uncollimated newt. first part of the tail easily showing on short 10 second exposure.

hopefully i'll get to setup properly in the next week. forecast not great for Melbourne.

keep them coming!

cheers

Thanks Alan!

Interesting what you say about rotation, hope to image again tonight to see if there's any other events.
Maybe it would be possible to work out a rotational period from this.

Thanks Russell!

Hope you gat a decent go before the next moon period.

Cheers,

Justin.
