Hi guys,

Well I might as well add to the amazing Tarantula images being posted on IIS.

Had a productive few days last week at the ASV's dark sky site.

38 x 200 seconds at ISO1600 giving me 2 hours and 6 minutes of exposure with some added 30 second shots masked in to reveal the core. Have tried to keep the image as "natural" as possible as I have had a tendency in recent times to over process.

What an amazing area this is! Whilst taking the photos we looked at the Tarantula under very good seeing conditions with Alex Cherney's 22" scope at 600X and the views were Simpy stunning. The central cluster filled the eyepiece!

JPEG is poor in the attachment so high res version here:

As always comments welcomed.

Merry Xmas and stay safe during the holiday period.

A nice photo John

I wish the skies in Brisbane were more cooperative; one clear night a week would do :)

If I may...try moving the black point on the histogram a bit more to the left, it will show more noise but also faint detal may show up as well. Just a suggestion.

Clear skies and looking forward to seeing more photos!

I actually went slightly the other way and darkened the background slightly but increased the slider as you said, so the net effect is a slightly darker background.

File on FLICKR updated through the link.

Nice work John, you combated the gusty conditions well. Friday night gave us great results indeed, and Alex's 22" under these conditions is nothing less than incredible [Hubble like - seriously].

All the best,

Steve

Yes Alex showed me the Tarantula thru his 22er, incredible, so much detail. Like your picture john, good resolution, plenty of potential in there
