Hi,

Here's an image I thought I'd never be able to get with an unmodded DSLR, but here it is!:)

Apart from the Pencil nebula the rest of the Vela Supernova is faint. I've tried before but didn't have the processing skills and the use of ISO 6400 helps a lot, and dark skies.

This image is centred at Star Ced 106c RA.8h 29m 27.4s Dec -44 43'24'.
It took a lot of digging to bring out the detail,( see original stacked image.)

Can't wait to have a go at other area's of the remnant!!

8” F/4 astrograph , baader type 3 coma corrector,. HEQ Pro 5 mount, orion mini guider.
Camera.
Unmodded Cannon 1100D plus cooler box., 60 x 2 minute subs at ISO 6400. Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker .Processed in Photoshop Cs2..
Cheers,
Justin.

wow nice  must be very faint iso 6400 that is pushing it . maybe longer subs needed.

Thanks Shane!

ISO 6400 2 minute exposures are perfect for dark skies. I used to use ISO 800 8 minute subs but it doesn't have the sensitivity of 6400.

What I get in noise is balanced out by the amount of exposures.

Cheers,

Justin.

Great stuff Justin! Have wondered myself whether this was a feasible target for a DSLR...think you've answered the question!

Excellent job Justin.
Thx for posting the unprocessed image too, I didn't realize it was so faint!
Looking forward to seeing what else you turn up using the unmodded Canon mate. You already have some impressive runs on the board with that set up.

Thanks Richard!

Should come up brilliantly with your setup.

Thanks Trevor!

I didn't hold out much hope when stacking was finished, thought it was too faint bit it's worth sticking to it sometimes.:)

Justin.
