Two versions of NGC 1769 and friends at NW edge of LMC. A punchier version (http://www.mikeberthonjones.smugmug.com/Category/Star-Forming-Regions/i-nBscMf4/0/X3/NGC%201769%20LMC%20Ha%203hrs%20OIII %202hrs%20Punchy-X3.jpg) has wavelet sharpening and stronger blues. A less processed version version (http://www.mikeberthonjones.smugmug.com/Category/Star-Forming-Regions/i-cQqvwG5/0/X3/0076%20NGC%201769%20LMC%20Ha%203hrs %20OIII%202hrs-X3.jpg) is shown for comparison. Which do you prefer?

[Bassnut (Fred) showed this area recently, but far more processed than either of these].

The rich young cluster just toward 5pm of centre has carved out a jewelled Aladin's Cave for itself. There is an intriguing "winged bubble" that Fred named Thor's Other Helmet about 70% of the way toward 3 o'clock.

Yellow: H-alpha (3 x 1hr subs). Blue: OIII (2x1hr subs). Aspen CG16M on 20" PlaneWave. As usual scope control, acquisition, image processing done using our own software.

(This is our first serious bit of photography since we ran into difficulties with a wobbly focuser draw tube, so we were keen to post it, as proof we were alive. Best, Mike n Trish)>

I like the more obvious detail in the punchy version. Nice work!

Cheers,
Rick.

Both are good, plenty of tid bits to find and form into lots of imaginary fluffy animals and aliens :P... and glad to know you guys are still alive too

Thanks, Rick.

Thrilled! Thanks.

Thanks, Geoff. Trish and I've decided it's the final version.

Thanks, Mike! I see a cross between Garfield and a giant bumble-bee with two huge blue eyes and madly flapping wings.

Cheers, Marc. Encouraged.

A great looking photo Mike.

A love the detail in the "punchier" version.

Ross.

Thanks, Ross. We are encouraged that a tiny touch of wavelet sharpening can be safe on occasion.
