No much to say, some data from yesterday ( a rare clear night ) added to some from last season's horsies. Perhaps this summer the weather will allow some colour !

Thanks.

The AO-X wasn't plugged in....I'm having a few issues with a new Toshiba Tecra, SkyX and windows 8.1 hence couldn't be bothered re-connecting it last night.

Hi, Peter, the "steam" rising is wonderful. The horses stamping, their warm breath clouding, in the sharp and frosty dawning of the day. And the astrophotographer lifts his pen.

Thanks..but just plain yoghurt methinks.

Thanks for the very poetic praise :)

Ta Marcus... ah...yes colour...that would require several clear nights and a new moon. One can dream I suppose

Like Selly's: SBIG's guiding simply works :D

Ta

Thanks for the feedback... It's indeed an awesome patch of the night sky

Superb! Its very 3D. You don't often see an astro image that shows depth but this one does.

Stunning amount of intricate detail Peter. One can spend a long time exploring this image and still keep finding interesting stuff.
Geoff.
Slightly off-topic, but do you have any problems with RBI on the 16803 chip?

Peter Ward

Thanks Geoff. The STX actually has a user selectable pre-flash mode. However while I typically run the camera at -30C. I've not had the need to use pre-flash.

Ta Greg....I tweaked it a bit more since the initial upload..the current version has a bit more contrast.

Very nice horse there Peter. The detail looks almost as good as R Jay Gabany's effort.

Cheers

Interesting detail. Me thinks you have happened across processing technique to draw out detail. It looks similar to some solar images I see from time to time. Very effective and as Steve points out, looks like Jay's rendition.

BTW I like it.

Look stunning!

Just curious - should the halo around Alnitak be symmetrical??

A pleasure

Ta Steve. What do you mean "almost" ?? :)

Thanks Paul.

Ta Fred. If you have a close look at the flame Nebula, you can see the dark nebula in front has a decidedly different structure....not something I've picked up on before.

Ta...the asymmetry is normal, as the halos are not in focus.

Excellent! Even my cat approves! Now about those halos.......

Well contrast is extremely well done with great detail and composition! only 2 hours exposure is a real bummer but does show how good your skills and equipment are.... I do hope you get more exposure on It.

ps not too thrilled about the work around the flame dude, the transition from the strong central detail to the out edges is not good.

Thanks mate...BTW the flame stuff is real. I only apply global filters (i.e. no selective masking) to "preserve the light" as someone once said :)

There seems to be a high contrast structure to the flame itself, which is being obscured by a fuzzy foreground dust cloud that extends to the right.

 Reminds me of Marty Feldman in Young Frankenstein...."I have a halo ?!! (hump)" "What halo! ?"

Ta...well I have been to quite a few bars over the years...some were at altitude :)
