Hi all,
A recent thread asking an oft repeated question has caused the start of a new IIS resource. A single place where dark sky and observing sites can be listed that surround the towns and cities around Australia. This new sticky thread is in the Start Parties, Club and Community Events forum:
Click here: Dark sky and observing sites around towns and cities across Australia (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=129464)
If you know of public and private sites that cater for our astronomical interests, please note them in that thread. As the thread develops, it may be subdivided into the various states for ease of use.
It will be a resource for the IIS community and the wider community, looking for places that are astro-friendly. Private observatories are encouraged to post their places too as these are an under recognized asset to the astro community, and one that can greatly benefit locals, interstate and international visitors. Formal astronomy clubs too are encouraged to post here their viewing properties for the same reasons.
It is hoped that this resource will replace the many lone threads asking 'where can I go to observe?...' into the one spot. Such questions can then be referred straight away to this thread.
It is also encouraged for people to update information pertaining to noted sites any changes to conditions, photos of the site, and their experiences there.
Clear skies, sharp pencils and cool CCD's,
Alex.
