Hi,

It's Horse Head season, and I try to improve on my previous season's
I'm happy with it!:)

8” F/4 astrograph , baader type 3 coma corrector,. HEQ Pro 5 mount, orion mini guider.
Camera.
Unmodded Cannon 1100D plus cooler box.10 x 8 minute subs an 10 x 5 minutes, ISO 1600, 36 x 2 minute subs at ISO 6400. Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker .Processed in Photoshop Cs2..

A great improvement over the last attempt! All the Ha looks great, hard to believe it's from an unmodded camera. It is surprising what you can do plenty of signal and carefull processing.

Yep, so far still heading in the right direction. I did spend a lot of time processing this image, it's tricky bringing out the details in the curtain while balancing the rest with OSC.

Nice work there Justin. Good colours and nice round stars. The Horsehead could do with a bit of sharpening though. I don't understand it really as the stars seem very sharp yet the Horsehead and Flame seem a bit soft - focus was a bit off?

A bit of deconvolution and mask the stars or selective sharpening.

Try this one, I've softened the stars a little in the flame and sharpened slightly in the nebulae.

Hi Justin,

A nice HH overall but I agree with Greg that the HH and Flame look a little soft even in the repro. Maybe I've been spoiled by a few images from huge scopes in great seeing. I've never tried to image this one myself...

wow - that is super impressive for an unmodded dslr.
agree that is looks a bit soft, noise reduction?

also I was never a fan of the flame nebula, after shooting it this year it has really grown on me maybe even making my top 10; nothing else really similar to it in the skies.

I'm sure I could get it sharper with some more data. The ISO 6400 data wasn't in the best conditions.
Saying that I've done one more repro, it's as far as I'm willing to push it.
Starting to get noisy with too much sharpening.

I did use some noise reduction, but it's mostly the ISO 6400 data that's the problem.

I just have to work the data in photo shop than the CCD guy's, but it always surprises me what you can get from a standard DSLR and dark skies.
