thnaks , thats handy to know

does the same source have a list of O III emitting objects as well? I have been searching for such a list without much luck

I think they would all be OIII or UHC.

I like NGC 3199.

These two catalogues cover northern and southern emission nebulae.
There are images of all Sh2 and RCW nebulae.

The Sharpless Catalogue (northern nebulae)

The RCW Catalogue (southern nebulae)

Excellent, thanks very much, just wat the doctor ordered :) I will go through them and see what I can image when the moon goes away and good weather comes back

Kevin Jardine created the galaxy map (http://galaxymap.org/cgi-bin/display.py?s=1_p0.0xp0.0) and website (http://galaxymap.org/). He says:

Douglas Finkbeiner has provided an invaluable service by carefully stitching together the results of these surveys to provide an all-sky hydrogen-alpha image (http://www.astro.princeton.edu/%7Edfink/halpha/). On the following pages, I have overlaid the Sharpless, Gum, RCW and other nebulae coordinates in the Galaxy Map database on top of this hydrogen-alpha image to provide more information about the true extent and relationships between these nebulae.

so do I -very much

I have shot it with an unmodded Canon, a modded canon in rgb and in Halpha-probably some 10 plus hours in total of exposure over many nights over the last couple of years and have yet to get a satisfactory image :(

I notice that Zane managed a very nice image of this challenging target

check for the image of 3199 in the CCD gallery

the best picture I have seen of this object though is by John Gleeson

well I'll keep on trying :)

Colin Gum at Australia's Mount Stromlo Commonwealth Observatory near Canberra took over an existing nebula photography project began by Clabon "Cla" Walter Allen...Tragically, Gum was killed in a skiing accident near the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps on 29 April 1960.

I'll have to add some of these to my own list... ;)

Another place to try is: http://www.wikisky.org/
Click on DSS H-Alpha Sky Survey, then zoom and move your mouse to find object names.
