Horsehead with 12.5"

Hi guys,

Had a great couple of nights at the ASV's Leon Mow Dark Sky site the last few nights and managed to get onto the Horsehead for several hours.

Really getting to the limit of my ageing DSLR camera.

Tough going with some of the halos around the bright stars.

200 second exposures at ISO1600, total 2 hours 43 minutes, equivalent darks, bias and flats applied.

Nice work John. I am surprised by the number of Orion and Horsehead shots as I assumed they were gone for the year. I suppose this was just after sunset for an hour or so before it was too low?

Also what 12.5 inch scope was this?

Nice one John, esp for an SLR, and that's a long FL scope.

We just returned from LMDSS ourselves today, as usual a frustrating Sat night with intermittent clouds, but managed around an hour of clear skies for data collection, did the same target. Will post when I can be bothered. Such a lovely target.

I was referring to the fact the Horsehead and Orion are now very low in the west after sunset so this image must have been either taken whilst it was very low or a month or so ago. Its too low now.

Certainly a good one for a DSLR John. To my ageing eyes it's probably just a bit too brick red though.
