Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html) is a 24 minute sequence taken
by Marco Guido in Italy earlier this month using his 20" f/4 Dob equipped
with pointing & tracking provided by an Argo Navis (http://www.wildcard-innovations.com.au/) and ServoCAT (http://www.stellarcat.com/).

See http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html

Thank you to Marco for sending me the link, photos and video
and congratulations on a fabulous piece of work.

Marco, whose native tongue is Italian, emailed me saying :-

It showcases what can be done with a big Dob provided with tracking.

Wildcard Innovations manufacture the Argo Navis here in Australia.
The Argo Navis computes the tracking rates in real-time on behalf of the ServoCAT servo motor controller.

Marco built the Dob himself and I have included a picture of it below.

Thanks Gary for posting this.
Great for Marco on getting an APOD :)
A beautiful scope topped of with the ARGO NAVIS and The Servocat.
I was going to send you a Nod but it seems you are well and truly informed. :)
Cheers:thumbsup:

This is so incredibly good.

Stuff like this, not DSOs, will be the reason if I ever get into AP proper.

Hi Mirko,

Thanks for the post.

Great stuff! I am certain that Marco would be delighted to hear that.

Marco specializes in high resolution imaging of solar system bodies.

Earlier this year, he imaged Uranus using the same equipment, which
may be of interest.

Marco's rooftop observatory is at approx. 45N 11E.
His web site is at http://www.marcoguidihires.com/ where, if you
navigate in the Gallery section, he has additional images.
