Triple Platinum!

I'm an academic editor for OUP - if only more manuscripts were like this, work would be so much easier!

There IS a paper that is NSFW/MA15+ that WAS accepted that shows how LITTLE some journals proof-read/check.

I won't go into details, suffice to say there is an F word and Get me off your ******* mailing list, complete with flow charts, diagrams and figures...

Back when I was a PhD candidate, one of my fellow studes was convinced that academic assessors never bothered reading all of the theses they were supposed to be examining (they get paid, too).

She craftily inserted some text in the middle of her thesis: "If you find this message, contact me on ABCXYZ address & I'll send you a bottle of Scotch of your choosing to the value of US$100".

Only one of three examiners contacted her!

It was the sort of journal that will publish anything if you pay them...

I circulated a link to that abstract among some of my scientific colleagues.

One wit replied that the abstract was too wordy & they should have just written "No".

I replied that, as it covers quantum mechanics stuff (Schrodinger's cat etc) and probabilistics, it should just say "Yes/No"....

And this is why I routinely search every document sent to me for the word "bottle"...
