Another NGC253. I am pleased with this as this object was a first light on the RC8 a year ago and so its been good to go back and do it properly after dealing with all of the new scope, software learning curve and hardware opportunities which have presented themselves this last 12 months

Are you using a field flattener on the RC8 David?

Am not using a flattener on this, am keeping it native and just cropping as needed, usually loosing 25%. I do have one from TS along with adapters but I just dont need to deal with the problems the extra glass introduced in terms of hot spots and reflections.

More than happy with the setup as is as the chip isnt particularily huge so its not something I cant work with

That's a nice NGC 253 David although I think you could apply a bit more contrast. Can I also be a pedant and draw your attention to the fact that it's the "Sculptor" galaxy and not "Sculpture".

Thanks for pointing that out, Steve. Will have a look at the contrast and see what come up. Have been having issues with the background on this image and a few others which I havnt really gotten to the bottom of so will add your pointer to things things to look at this weekend when I revisit.

Thanks Justin, once you get out of the fear factor moving from a frac to one of these, it really is a very very good scope.. Bank for your buck? absolutely..pity about the processing though.

I spent this weekend looking at some issues in processing and based on some guidance have had a tinker. This is the revised version which gets rid of most of the back ground issues I was coming up against.
Am over this and am moving on but thanks for your great feedback

Ah huh!...now, that's better, the rework has paid off nicely David :thumbsup:

The oooonly wittle thing I will mention :scared3: (because I have fetish against it :lol:) I can see the decon or wavelet sharpening, as usual it turns all the shapes in the detail into tiny bright uniform star like points or thin strings and to my eye it is pretty obvious and quite hard to disguise...having said that it is quite a beaut image regardless :thumbsup: (of course you may just ignore my allergy :P)

I just dont have the seeing (or resolution) to get the level of detail many people are able to get so I applied some deconvolution in PI. Can work really well if done in small amounts but as you say, its difficult to hide.

When I grow up and have a CDK17 on top of a mountain in Chile (actually, my little RC8 anywhere outside of the Sydney Bowl would be good to be honest) I' ll stop doing it :lol:, but in the meantime I will try to improve my processing technique.

Thanks for the feedback though. The rework was definately needed
