Adapters for Celestron 4SE - Where to Buy?

Hi all,

This is my first post, so will take the opportunity to say G'day. Overclockers forums referred me to here saying this is a best aussie astro forum. Has taken me a while to make my first post as I have been busy reading and learning.

Anyways, I have finally bought myself my first telescope, Celestron 4SE and have been occasionally playing with it. What I would like to do is mount my Canon 600D to the back port of 4SE. I have been doing some research and have learnt that I need a SCT to T2 adapter, a visual back, a T-ring and a T-adapter, what I would also like to do is have a star diagonal for convenience.

I'm really struggling to find an one stop shop for all these items. Especially the Badder SCT/T2 (part no 2958500) can't seem to find it here in australia. I was wondering if any of you guys have bought these items and where you bought it from.

Careful!
It is not a standard SCT thread on the back of the SE4.
I have all of the attachments you mention (except that my adapter was for a Pentax).

The T Adapter I have is a genuine Celestron Part #93635. Andrew have it

And you don't need a visual back (for the above) as the 93635-A screws directly onto the rear thread of the 4SE (I just tested it).

If you want to use the rear for visual as well ( as indicated by you mentioning the star diagonal), then YES you will. Again I got the Celestron one for this model.
But this is extremely optional, as the 4SE has a built in flip mirror and second viewing outlet on top. Having said that, I did exactly the same.

Just a Point (I didn't know when I started). With the camera mounted on the rear of the 4SE you may not be able to move the OTA through the full range of motion. This may be a problem for you.

Thanks for replying

I did learn from my research that rear port of 4SE is not a SCT thread, hence the intention to first screw on the Baader Mak to SCT rear thread adapter to 4SE(Baader part no. 2958500) and the visual back to the back of adapter with SCT thread. This opens me up for a big range of SCT accessories available out there. The I wanted to use the start diagonal on the visual black and then mount the camera in the star diagonal. Similar to this pic

Yeah, I got a similar thread converter too, I remember getting it from Bintel some years back. It was for another scope (ETX maybe) and they weren't sure it would work. I will have a dig around. I don't think it locked on as securely as the Celestron as mentioned, so I didn't like using it with a lot of weight.

I believe they are quite good to deal with.

The Meade Mak and Celestron Mak threads are ALMOST interchangeable, but not quite. I believe the Celestron is 1.375" - 24 TPI, while the Meade ETX is 1.38" - 25.4 TPI. Generic Maks and accessories from China and other sources could be either thread (or something different again!)

I'm told that whether an adapter intended for one will fit the other is a matter of luck, depending on how tight the thread tolerances are on both pieces. For example, I have a 90 mm Mak which takes a Celestron adapter perfectly, but a Meade adapter binds after about one turn, and I'm not game to use it because the thread is not properly engaged.

Gents, Thanks for all your help and guidance, I got around to ordering the adapter, t-ring/adapter, visual back. hoping to see them before the weekend.
