This is actually a reprocess of one I posted in the beginners forum earlier this year. I have posted repro first and original is the second image. Comments and pointers welcome.
Image details:
34 x 300sec @ ISO1600 with the gear in my signature.
I may have overdone it this time?????? Let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking.
OK everyone, iteration no.3 attached. I am much happier with this version, thanks for the feedback and encouragement. I had a feeling I had gone too far with it. I'm not sure why but I find it really hard with my own images. I can look at someone elses and form an opinion as to whether I think it needs more colour, less colour etc, but with my own I just keep second guessing. One day I will be able to look at them and know what it needs. Until then I'll just keep annoying you guys.
Sorry everyone, forgot the link. Larger version here:http://www.astrobin.com/129706/C/

I started writing this reply with a distinct lean towards the original processing, but after some reconsideration of the reprocessed version, I've now moved into the "unsure" category.
Not very helpful I know. :) Nice images though.

Hi Rex
Both very nice shots with which I think you should be pleased. My preference for the processing would be somewhere in between the two. Maybe leaning slightly to number 1.
Cheers

Rex,
The new version is a little too saturated for my taste, although no worse than many images I've produced myself :) Somewhere between the two would be good IMHO.
Cheers,
Rick.
Whoops, didn't see the other posts until after I posted mine. Looks like you have a consensus, Rex!

Prefer the one on the right personally, which is a cracker
The one on the left looks a little warm :confused2:

They're both very good, but the more subtle one is more pleasing to my eye :)

Hi Rex,
Very nice - half way between 1 & 2 is best.
possible improvement - increase the background brightness
& then mask the colour noise out.
cheers

Good work Rex!
As has been said, somewhere in the middle.
Perhaps knock off some yellow and red in saturation of the stars.
Cheers,
Justin.

Good stuff Rex. I think you got it right the first time. If I could get something half that good I would be very pleased. Its a good galaxy to image, bright but nice and evenly iluminated.
 Rick
Thanks very much everyone for the great feedback and encouragement. I have made an in between version which I am much happier with and attached it to the first post. Once again, please let me know what you think.

As I am somewhat colour blind , I am able to comment on the finer details of colour shading.
Your last image is in my humble opinion spectacular , well done.

Well done Rex, I love the way you work with the feedback given.
That last one looks nicely balanced between the other 2.

A very good galaxy photo Rex.
I prefer the second one still.
I share your pain. Every time I process a new astro photo, I can sometimes do 10 different versions, never sure which one I prefer.
I then pester my friends and family for opinions!
It is a good way to learn and you will eventually develop an "eye" and a "style".
Good luck.
Ross.
Thanks very much Andre, Very much appreciated.
Thanks Sol, I'm always learning, and striving to make my images better.
Thanks for the feedback Ross. I do the same as you with friends and family, one day as you said it will all click for me. In this case, I much prefer the original to my first reprocess, but thought it was a little flat and lifeless compared to others I have seen. That's why I decided to try a redo in the first place. I am much happier with my final version, just seems a little more alive to me. But thats just my opinion, which I have freely admitted is a little scewed when dealing with my own images.

Sums it up well Rex

Rex, I look back at my early efforts and think wow you're doing very well indeed. Subtle is good. Excellent stuff.
Thanks very much Mike. I appreciate it. It's been a bit of a whirlwind actually, I've learned so much this season that I think I will struggle to remember it all next season.
