:thumbsup:well All I can say about these is WOAW ! , what a lovely piece of kit .

Before I mounted it on the iStar 127 I used it as a small stand alone telescope for a week or so and with only a 50mm dia and about f5 ? its a 'Sparrow Hawk' , man with its super smooth helical focuser and also being able to take 1 1/4 inch eyepieces I was able to get 70x on the moon without image break down , a neat little telescope in its own rights , very very sweet .

Here are a few photos and of note is the look down the objective end , notice the full dew shield and baffles ? , a nice bit if gear so solidly well made .
Hope you enjoy this more than my Mizar thread :P .

Brian.

I've used them as finders on both Taks, Brian-certainly a cut above your average finder

Laurie, this is the finder scope you sold with the TSA120 - I sold it to Brian as I only use a straight thru finder.

But, boy, was I impressed with the optical quality - best I have ever seen!

Cheers,

Phil

I bought a 60mm SV from Curt in WA recently. Very nice and shows so much more than a generic 50mm finder, and its small
Really like the solid shoe and rings :thumbsup:
Apart from being a refractoholic I think I have become a finder junkie

I always found the Takahashi 7x50 was a nice finder, but my favourite still is the Vixen 7x50, which I have fitted with a non-rotating helical focuser, and use as my guidescope. It shows a near perfect image with minimal field curvature. (The Tak shows a touch more curvature, and is not readily adaptable to the helical focuser since they altered the rear mounting interface). The Vixen makes a VERY fine little telescope in it's own right with a 24mm or so EP in the back.

I like the SV finders, but find the Vixen and Taks just a touch clearer/sharper. The Vixen's are Synta made by memory, so must pick he best of the batches, since all the SW branded ones I have looked through are horrible. The Tak finders I think are still Japanese sourced - I once knew the maker of the glass, but cannot recall - they are a small firm.

I must say though that I still love the little Tak 6x30 and the Vixen equivalent. I kept my Tak 6x30 when I sold the stuff recently - THAT good. I fitted a 7x50 on the FCT-100, as that is specifically what they sold with from new (NEVER with the 6x30).
