Her's a great series of photos explaining the approach of Rosetta to the comet, with some great close-ups of the comet surface:

Had to rewind the feed to see the actual moment, that what I missed, nevermind it was good to see the determination on the faces then the moment of confirmation.

Now I go to bed :hi:

Yep hope it's a good one!

Little concerning that the harpoons didn't fire, hopefully the screws are holding Philae down. I think they're considering another attempt to fire the harpoons.

A bit concerned about the annimated conversations and expressions in the operations centre. I can see some hand waving going on, but there are also some visual references to screwing motion so maybe that's what they are trying to do - use the screws to hold it down. Probably can't do much science on the surface if the hold is tenuous.

That is awesome news that they have made it ! What great science I expect we will have coming our way from this mission !

The anchoring harpoons failed to fire so it is not actually anchored to the comet, lets hope it doesn't get shaken loose.
Also the comet aliens have issued it with a parking ticket.
Amazing achievement.

It now sounds like it may have bounced and landed again!
A rough calculation from one of the members on the umsf forum thread suggested a 2 hour bounce would have been from a 0.3m/s bounce reaching an altitude of 530m.

Let's hope the second landing was legs down.

Doesn't look like there will be much info released until the press conference tonght - midnight AEDST I think.

There seems to be conflicting reports, some say the harpoons didn't fire while others say that they did fire but were rewound all the way in. I guess this suggests the surface is REALLY soft which is also supported by the statements made at landing hinting that the legs had not 'pushed up' as much as predicted.
