Hello from sunny Alice Springs

G'day All,

I bought my first telescope only a few months ago and haven't stopped staring at the night sky since. The only trouble I'm having is when I drive a few K's out of town on a dirt track it gets awfully lonely.
I know that there is an astronomy group out here but I haven't managed to track them down. Does anyone here belong to them or knows someone out here I can talk to?

Hi and welcome to IIS.
A good way to find others locally is to ask the local news agent who else is buying the Astronomy Mags and get them to ask if they are interested in meeting up with you for a chat.

Yep, they're a bit elusive. Its a pretty loose group, from what I understand. I'll give Bill a nudge and see if he'll repsond to you, I don't think he comes here very often any more.

Try hitting up the guys from Comspec, i think the owner is involved with the local club, well he was when I lived there a few years back.
