Managed to fire off a few shots in between the clouds this morning - quite happy with this one.... This is correct orientation for our area of the world - is there a standard orientation for sun images???

ED80, Nikon D70, ISO200, 1/200s
JMB type A solar filter

Hi Lee

A very nice solar disc image and nicely presented too, with the detailed inset. The good Dr, who runs SpaceWeather, uses the SOHO orientation, as uncovered by the IIS roving reporter Mr. H0ugh.

Really, it is a nice image. As for correct orientation, I think that 2 vectors should be given.
Which way is North?
And because some S/w flipps an image, which way is either East or West.
IMO just giving north, is insufficient. Taking a cue from 'The Sky', if both North and East vectors are given, this will allow accurate comparisons to be made world wide.
Is there a link detailing how sunspots are numbered??
Cheers,
Doug

By "correct" orientation I meant how it is to us - ie not mirrored or inverted.... which way is north?
