Superb! Talk about reward for effort. Very sharp and detailed, nice colour. Lots of faint fuzzies on a dark clean background.

Thanks everyone,
I'm pretty stoked to see all the tiny galaxies. There's a tiny cluster of them at 1 O'Clock.
anyone able to do the pixinsight annotation based on what's visible in the image or suggest how one can do this?
here's the fits file which should have all the info in the header.

I just want to see how many galaxies are in the image.

Attached as requested Alistair. There are quite a few in there. I also got it to export the objects in a text file, opened in excel and printed a PDF. That file is also attached. Like I said there are quite a few in there. Great job.

Real nice image, Alistair. Love all the tiny galaxies you have captured in the background. Well done.

Thanks a lot Rex. 166 galaxies in a 40min exposure, can only attribute that to dark skies and decent aperture. I'm hooked.
Odd thing is that it didn't seem all that dark in nhill, you could walk around without a red light, but data in the images and the black holes that were clouds, indicate otherwise.

Again a really great shot of these galaxies...except for the colour - that blue purple is showing again  still a worthwhile view, so many faint fuzzies in that area

Thanks Mike, looks like I have to invest in a colour calibrated monitor. its more reddish in my present monitor.
I love the faint fuzzies, I'll revisit this again.

Is this any better Mike? I tried to compare it with your version, I can't do much more with this data and can't get star colours either.
reprocessed from scratch.

Hi Alistair,
You have picked up an amazing number of galaxies.
Did you try a LAB mode boost to get colour &
also why is the background so dark?
It's coal black on my monitor.

Very detailed in the quartet Alistair. The colour in this one http://www.astrobin.com/full/133900/B/ is much better than the original.

hi Allan,

Is this any better http://www.astrobin.com/full/133900/C/
quick edit of levels and saturation in gimp, not sure how to do a LAB boost.

Hi Alistair,
The one you posted has the same background level & the colour has not altered.
I normally aim for a background sampled level of about 20.
I only know how to use LAB mode in PhotoShop as per one
of the tutorials from Louie here:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJ5b6pFHBGe66vsuSaXb-0A

I don't know GIMP.

I can post your pic with these mods if you want?
It will take less than 1 minute.

Hi Alistair,
as per your PM I have boosted the colour in LAB mode
& raised the background to about 20.
It was also variable flattened with Fitswork4.
Some colour noise came out in the background but it doesn't matter as
this is a deep image & you want to see where the noise level is.
Many stars came out yellow.
see here:

do you like that better?

cheers
Allan
