SPX350 F4.5, ST10XME, Astrodon filters.
Grabbed this before summer bad weather although it was a breezy night. ST10 is very sensitive so got 5sec subs without any blooming to clean up trapezium area. ST10 is great at narrow band. M42 turned out a bit blue, I should have gone for longer SII.
Used the Mintron (GStar-Ex) for a barlow close up of the trap stars and had a go at IR742nm which I though may show the 15th mag stars between the trapezium better but it did not.
M42 Ha-SII Ha OIII.
12x5min each SII Ha OIII.
16x5sec each SII Ha OIII.
Mintron 1.28sec frames at F15.5
UHC+Red 2000 frames each
Blue+Green 500 frames each.
IR 962 frames.
Regards, John.

Whoa, I think you just out M42ed every other M42!. If you have to do M42, then go mad. Mad art is the only thing left to do on M42, and you just raised the bar. Excellent.

Insanity, but I could look at that M42 all day - it's beautiful.
As for the Trapezium, that's just damned impressive.

Great colours on the NB image John. Detail is subtle but well defined too. I like that palette, which I have seen on several other sites before. Russell Crowman has a nice image with a slightly different palette. Very nice.
Nice John, lovely colour palette, and a bit different. Love those trap stars.

Corker image John - pushing the boundaries with a familiar object and turning it into something quite new and fresh.

Thanks for the many comments. This one takes little time so is easy to get but NB is always difficult to be satisfied with so I went for the bright look. I seemed to have picked up a lot of OIII and less SII than I would have liked, but you all seem to like it.
Luckily I got a still night for the close in work a few days later with no Moon. At midnight the breeze completely disappeared against predictions giving me a few hours.
Thanks again, John.

Exquisite detail and although the colours are very 70's, they're strangely compelling! :)
