Tiny M74

Hi everyone, I took this image on the 15 and 16 of October while chasing around clouds in between my actual objects that I was trying to capture. I wasn't sure how it would turn out being so small in the FOV, but it's a little larger than I thought it would be. I might actually try to get some more data on this and see if I can improve it down the track. Man I wish I had a 2" Barlow, Then it would seriously be worth it. I've pushed this to the absolute limit, so is a little grainy in places.

After seeing it up here I decided it was a little too far pushed so I made some adjustments and uploaded a second version.

Nice shot Rex, though perhaps a little black clipped and a bit hard on the noise reduction. It looks a bit smudged to me?

How is your eastern horizon? Keep an eye on M61. There's a bright mag 13 supernova in it!

Sorry Kevin I just remembered I didn't answer you. M61 at the moment rises at 4am, My eastern horizon is ok but trees block my view of rising objects until about 1 hour after they rise. As you know up here the sun comes up pretty early, so not sure if I would catch it in time. Might be worth getting up to check it out though. Thanks for the headsup.

It's too low for me as well Rex, but give it a couple of weeks and it will be higher in the sky. Your present setup would have no problem imaging it, weather permitting.

Yeah I don't mind it small either Rex, it's such a classically beautiful spiral huh? Been meaning to image it myself at some stage but there is just so much to choose from up there...between the clouds :rolleyes: :lol:

Thanks Mike, yep this time of year constantly seem to be chasing between the clouds. Your right it is a beautiful spiral and your also right about soooo much to choose from. Sometimes it does my head in when trying to choose my next target, and then sometimes the best planned nights don't work out that way and you have to change part way through the imaging run for one reason or another. But that's part of the fun, and when your lucky enough that your images actually turn out ok, that's a bonus. I look forward to seeing your rendition of this beautiful object, with the resolution of your system it will be an awesome sight.
