MEADE 14 INCH LX200 ACF
Recently my circumstances have changed and I will be moving house in the near future. To facilitate the move I reluctantly put this scope up for sale. If there is no interest I will pack it away until such time I am ready to set up a permanent observatory.
This scope was purchased new from Bintel in June 2010 and has had little use mainly due to the poor weather over the last few
years and my circumstances which has limited my free time.
It is in excellent like new condition and is a great opportunity to save a few thousand dollars if you are looking to buy one of these monsters.
Ihave all the boxes and paperworkand I have added the usual necessary accessories you need to buy when you get one of these scopes. In case you didn’t realise it, you need to buy a lot of extras to make one of these scopes useable.
Thousands of dollars worth of extras. For instance as soon as you add a dew shield the weight it so great it takes a 5.5kg weight placed at the visual back to balance it. Then you need a sliding weight system under the tube to balance whatever accessories you add or use, for example heavy eyepieces, cameras, eyepiece turret etc. All this needs to be balanced so you don’t stress the motors.
I had the following accessories fitted by Bintel before delivery-
Zero Image Shift Focuser, Peterson Engineering EZI Clutch, Peterson Engineering Get a Grip Ergonomic Handles, Peterson Engineering Eye Opener.
Then I added more necessary accessories the first being a weight system which consists of a Farpoint Dovetail Plate and a set of Meade weights with 1 extra weight (3 weights total) plus a 5.5kg weight at the visual back.
Another Farpoint Dovetail Plate was added to the top of the tube to mount an 80mm Guide Scope (80mm Guide Scope not included) . Then two Astrozap Dew heaters were added, one to the main tube and the other to the finder scope. Then an Azstrozap dew shield with heater was added then an Astrozap Eyepiece Tray and a HitecAstro Mount Hub Pro to control the dew heaters and cameras using one USB connection. To power it all a 7 amp Regulated Power Supply was added.
There are two hand controllers, one the standard plug in hand controller and the second is a Meade Wireless hand controller.
I have set this telescope up mainly for visual and Video astronomy, it’s all mounted on a custom made buggy with a colour TV monitor mounted at the rear that doubles as a table to place your laptop.
(This can easily be removed) It’s all easy to move and set up quickly. The buggy has levelling screws that make it easy to level.
To protect your investment you need spare parts, there is nothing like having spares on hand if anything should go wrong.
