This is pretty pathetic compared to other pics I've seen. And it's tricky finding galaxies big enough and bright enough for small scopes. But if I never saw any other pics of it, I wouldn't think it was too bad, if that makes any sense. :screwy:

Taken over 4 nights with night temps rising here in NQ, makes for imaging faint stuff difficult. 26c here tonight. Details in the pic. Full frame at astrobin.

Wow Kevin, that's really nice mate. Interesting diffraction spikes.... has your newt got a six vein spider? The astrobin version shows quite a bit of detail in the galaxy with a nice neutral background, well done mate :thumbsup:

A big fish well-caught on a light line. Pleasing field.

I wouldn't call it pathetic by any means. The galaxy is a bit too blue/cyan but the detail is good. A nice job I think.

Not bad at all, Kevin! You'll have to try a lot hard to get the jets though :)

That's a real nice looking galaxy there, Kevin. Especially considering how warm it is up in NQ. Good stuff.

Thanks Rex. It's a 3 vane spider. This tricks a lot of people. http://www.telescope-optics.net/spider.htm

Thanks Peter!

Thanks Mike. I can only aspire to get an image like yours.

Thanks Steve. Yes there is a lot of blue in the galaxy. Not sure why, but my K-5 tends to have a blue bias with a lot of DSO's and I find it difficult to correct without messing up the background. Not sure if it's a camera thing or because my sky is sodium street light orange and making it neutral via colour balance makes "foreground" objects blue. I do know that the galaxy was less blue with an LP filter. Unfortunately the LP filter chewed too much light in total to use it.

Something to work for Rick, like in Mike's image. I think maybe 100 hours should do it! ;)

Thanks Jason. Yep the weather is all downhill now until May next year. Probably the end of DSO season here so I will have to shoot bright stuff like clusters etc.

Thanks Lindon lol.

Thanks Mike. I think it's the first time I've shot this galaxy, so this will be the one to improve on.
