Couple of shots from BSG 2014 from Friday night. Orion was rising around 11:00pm so I shot it all night until 4:00am. Couple of passing clouds so a little noisy. Two panels of 25x5min each.
Pentax 150mm lens, QHY9 and IR 740nm filter guided on G11.
Here are a couple of bigger versions below:
HD [1920x959] 1.4MB (http://www.astropic.net/astro/orion_ir_HD.jpg)
50% [2355x1176] 2MB (http://www.astropic.net/astro/orion_ir_fff.jpg)
I'll probably try it again with more integration time when it's up ahead as I started very low. Lot more stars than your usual RGB or Ha shots and the HH is actually lighter against the darker background with all the Ha neb gone. That should be cool doing at longer FL another time.

That's a bit different! Nice one :)
That light structure near the left of frame is pretty interesting...?
I was looking at that too, but probably edge diffraction from Betelgeuse?
Nice Marc - thanks for sharing.

Yeah it looks like a luftwaffe run. I seem to attract these. When it's not the moon it's something else. :)
Luftwaffe or Kamikaze – it’s a very interesting shot …

Very cool Marc! Nice to see an IR widefield image of this area. I experimented with IR on the Horsehead about a year ago but did not collect enough data for a proper image, only LRGB - I'll definitely return to it in the future. Thanks for the inspiration

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Thanks Rolf. The HH close up is one I want to try as well in IR. I suspect it's going to take a lot of subs as you said.
That's pretty cool. Nice one:thumbsup:
Good stuff Marc! A very different view of this area. The HD version is awesome, so much to look at, and very sharp.

Hi, Marc,
Buzzy shot. Everything looks so completely different, I had some fun superimposing your shot on a standard RGB shot of the area, and finding what was what. The flame neb looks much like itself, and the horsehead is where it should be, but as you say, much less conspicuous without it's "stable" of H-alpha. A different world. Thanks for sharing. Best, Mike.

mmm, interesting with IR, but looking passed lots of stars, other object detail is a bit blown. Is that a problem with IR?.

Yes you do get some bloating in IR. Some stars just flare up. 150mm is around 7asp as well so hard to get details up close. I guess you'd need at least twice the amount of exposures to push it up and a clear run without high altitude haze.
Thanks mate. Catch up soon.
