The Helix Nebula in Ha. Imaged from a fairly light polluted location, I’m about 15 km from the CBD of Melbourne. 10 Subs were used at 1500 sec. Guiding was through the Ha filter at 10 sec integrations using the on board guide chip.

All images where calibrated, aligned, and stacked using CCDStack2. From here, I used Photoshop CS 6 to perform the image enhancements, levels, and curve adjustments.

The instrument used was a 10" RCOS, AP-900 mount, STL-11000 Mono CCD running at -15 C, Baader Ha filter. Image capture software was CCDSoft / TheSkyX / ASCOM Poth.

Super-crisp, and for 15km from the CBD, remarkably deep.

Nice detail, Terry. What was the bandwidth of your filter? The Helix produces a lot of NII so a narrow Ha filter (e.g. my 3nm) gets a lot less signal than a wider one.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. Sometimes we get lucky. Rick, 7nm on the filters.

Sooo sharp and good depth. Looking at your other images is interesting too, always very sharp. I think I have the same OTA as you (not overly common), well done indeed, I need to try harder :P

Ross, Fred, Rex, Apal, and Steve. Thank you for the encouraging comments about the image. It means a lot.

Fred, I think you could be correct about the same OTA. You’re right, not a very common instrument. Thanks for the nice comment on its depth. Especially from the burbs.

Thank you Marcus. I'm waiting for the clouds to move on to get more data. It's been weeks, or was that months. I really can't remember it's been so long. But I guess everyone in Victoria is in the same boat.
