Adjusted - Rosette Nebula

Hi everyone. I have been wanting to image the Rosette Nebula for a long time but always seem to miss it each year. Either through bad weather or busy life, so this year I wanted to get in early and make sure I didn't miss out on it again. I would ideally like to take another panel and make a mosaic out of it to eliminate the fact that the top is slightly truncated. Hopefully the weather will hold so I can make that happen.

Edit: After having a look on a different monitor, I calibrated my monitor when I got home tonight and made some adjustments. I have attached the adjusted image to this post. First image is the adjusted, the secons is the original. Would be interested to know what everyone thought. Thanks again for looking.

Congrats on a great image Rex. Challenging in a DSLR normally this time of the year, but your 1100 modding has really paid dividends. You'd have to be happy with that!

There is a slight green cast so my only suggestion would be to reduce the green a bit overall. This will yield a more red/magenta neb.

Thanks Mike. I have a HH from quiet a while ago, it always needed more data so was a little anemic, but recently got a some more to add to it. Just have find the time lol. There are a few other staples I haven't got yet, M83, Eta-C, and more, but will get them eventually.

Being an emission type nebula the main emission is from Ha.

Thanks Rick, yeah it's starting to warm up considerably, and the patchy clouds mean you have to sit and watch the gear do it's thing so you can set it going again when it looses the guide star. Oh well there are worse things than having to sit outside under a beautiful sky and contemplating life....but I guess somone has to do it. LOL.

Thats a fine effort with, well, modest gear. Excellent composition, colour, sharp as and I bet a fair bit of patience to get everything working well for such a good result.

Thank you Fred, and yes there were some trying and frustrating times, and to be honest there still is on occasion, but every now and then it all just comes together and allows me to achieve some ok results. Thanks again for the encouragement.

This image is really is very nice Rex, Brilliant job. :thumbsup:

If I was to suggest something, you could (if you wish) remove the orange-ish look to the nebula by adding some magenta (or by dropping the green level) to give it that rich red CCD look, and maybe a little touch of star reduction to bring out the nebula details?

Thanks for the feedback Jo, I really appreciate different opinions it's how we learn. I think I like the original better than what you have done though, it may be my screen but yours has a blue cast over the entire image including the background. Marcus suggested doing a similar thing earlier on in this thread, and I did have a look at it then, but couldn't achieve it while keeping the background neutral, so I left it. Like i said it may be my screen, I'll have a look when I get to work on a different monitor and see what it looks like there. Thanks again for your suggestions.

Ok I'm at work now, and your version still has a slight blue cast to it, however my version does have a slight green cast to it on this monitor, so I can see what you and Marcus were commenting about. I might have a look tonight when I get home and see if I can't get something in between to two, above all I like to keep the background neutral, not sure why, call me crazy, but it's the one thing I like to make sure of. I obviously will have to have a look at the colour settings on my monitor. Thanks again for the input.

That's a nice detailed Rosette Rex - well done. I would agree with some of the other comments though. The colour should be a bit more magenta.

Thanks Simon, I feel like I am actually improving, not only my processing skills, but also my acquisition skills. I am still hoping to turn this into a mosaic to include the top part, that's if the bloody clouds would go away.

Thanks very much Rod. Not enough blue in my images has been an ongoing saga of mine. Hopefully now I have discovered why, and won't have that issue any more. Time will tell.
