M42 while waiting for M42.

Hi,

I'm hanging out to do a deep image of M42, skies have been crap lately!

So I dug out 30 minutes of data from last year, not particularly good data some image tilt.
But just wanted to see how much faint stuff I could dig out around M42.

Quite surprised what was hiding in the measly data, took quite a bit of layering to bring it out.
Image is slightly cropped.
Here's the original stacked image too.

8" F/4 astrograph HEQ pro 5 mount. Orion mini guider.

Unmodded canon 1100D, baader type III coma corrector.

6 x 5 minute subs, ISO 800 and 1 x 2 minute ISO 800. Stacked in DSS, processed in PS Cs2.

I've been naughty. I put bill on hold and bought an 8" F4 imaging newt. It arrives next week. In the meantime I've been practicing collimation with the 6" F5. If I get images half as good as yours I'll be happy.

Yep, an 8" f/4 packs punch, certainly cuts down on exposure times.
Steel tube or carbon fibre?
If steel I have a few mods that should help with flexure.

Yes, the moral of the story is you can pull a lot out of your data with some decent processing skills! You don't necessarily need mega data either! Looks like you've got the hang of it anyway Justin! Looking forward to seeing what you can do with some good data!
