Just a single frame. Haven't seen one as big as this in a while, or ever?

Just had a look with the bino's, it sure is big and easily visible with just eclipse glasses too. Thanks Kevin for the heads up, haven't looked at the sun for a while.

I got warning from the other guys lol.

Have you seen one this big before? I know my memory sucks, but this is huge.

Just got one of those Kendrick solar filters.
I went outside and held it up in front of me and was quite impressed what I saw.

I would have to say this would have to be the largest single spot (patch?) that I have ever seen. Here is my snap 100 iso, 1/4000 sec 120mm f5 saxon achromat, badder solar film.

Man that Baader filter must be bright to use 1/4000 sec. Was that at PF or did you use a barlow?

Very nice Kevin!

I think it is the largest spot I have witnessed since I have been paying attention.

It was at PF, the filter came with the scope (secondhand) but it must be photographic only density, its too bright for visual (ouch), and because I have maxed out the camera settings, a bit to bright for that too. (and its stopped down to the 50mm hole in the end cap). Time to order some more filter material me thinks.

I found that by adding a filter of some form into the train when using the ND3.8 baader film it helps quite a bit and you can regain more control over the exposures.

Personally I use a clip in astronomik OIII filter but a solar continuum should do the trick too.
Often people use a UV/IR cut filter but unless the dslr is modded it already has one so adding another wouldn't do a great deal more but it would at least get you a bit more control with the exposures.

I used a Baader UV/IR cut Jarrod. I know my DSLR already has one inbuilt, but I found the contrast to be better with it. At least on the power pole nebula down the street lol.

Wicked sun spot Kevin!

Been a long time since I've seen one that big, early 1990's I think:question:

Cheers,

Justin.

Certainly impressive, just had used the 8" cassegrain and thousand oaks filter to take some images.
Spent some time just observing it, gob smacking.:eyepop:

Cheers,

Justin.

It's spectacular alright Justin.

Sun today October 25. There's been another X class flare since yesterday and the F2 low band VHF radio propagation continues at high levels.
