Pleiades and California Nebulae - from Wiruna

Here is another shot I have been working on.

Showing both the Pleiades and California Nebulae and how close they are together in the sky. Really been enjoying shooting some of these nice northern objects. There is just so much dust out there.

When I first started processing this one I thought there was something wrong with the image when I saw the dust line running vertically through the middle of the image. Turns out its the Perseus Molecular Cloud.

This image was taken at only 116mm to frame both the Pleiades and California Nebulae in the shot nicely. Its also only 1hr and 15mins of data, again, dawn stopped me getting more data on this one. Shot using my usual set up.

I also noticed that there is a happy clown in the image! Can you see it? :lol:

I didn't realise the California Neb was that close to the Pleiades. Great shot.

One of my fav widefields. Right up there with M31, Mirach and M33 in one frame. Nicely done Jason. You captured so much colour.

Thanks Mike, glad you're loving them mate. No more data to process from Wiruna. But I still have a few more from Bretti to go.



Cheers Greg, yeah I only recently realised they were that close together as well and thought they would make a nice, contrasting widefield. Would love to get a couple more hours on them this season.

Yes M31, Mirach and M33 in the one frame make a nice widefield too. Not sure if you saw my go at them last month but you can see it here. (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=125688)

Great field Jason. I've imaged both individually but never realized how close they were. I really need to get my dslr strapped to my mount and try some of this wide field stuff.

You got several great images from this trip Jason, in particular this last one is impressive with the California nebula rising just about 20 degrees from the horizon, I am impressed you got it so clear :eyepop:Really well done, Wiruna must have a really great sky :thumbsup:

Thanks Ross, glad you love it. My fave so far was my Witch Head Nebula. With this one though I just wish I had more data on it as I think it is a tad noisy but cheers mate!

Cheers Simon, yeah lots of dust up there, that's one of the things I have been surprised about the most as I have processed these images. Cheers John, yeah I don't think many people realise how close these 2 classic objects are together. I only recently found it out myself. Yes get your DSLR out and get some wide field shots, lots of fun.



Thank you Marco, glad you like it. Yeah I was not sure how the California Nebula would look being so close to the horizon. I could see it in my test subs so I knew it was there and that I would be able to pull it out. We had a couple great nights at Wiruna last month. It was perfect! I'm just disappointed I can't be out there this weekend. Oh well, always next month.
