Observed from 40km W of Dunedin. 1/8 cloud cover pre U1 reduced to essentially no cloud during Totality. Howling Southerlies with showers pushed through halfway through the second partial phase. By that time though, I had seen my first total Lunar in many years, during which time I had half-forgotten how bloody good these blood moons are.
Attached pics show an all-sky comparison between penumbral stage and totality. A massive drop in sky brightness and ambient light. Stunning Milky Way, Zodiacal Lightbridge, and an unexpected Kp3 Aurora* all became visible as the eclipse went total. Skyglow at 3 o'clock is Dunedin.
Pics: 6D, ISO 4000, 8mm, f/4, 10s (pre U1) and 30s (post U2).
*Aurora was apparent as such in photo only. Only after look ing at the photo did I realise that the visually faint, colourless glow below the Milky Way was in fact an Aurora.
