Just a teaser of a project I have going at present. NGC253 or the silver coin. Not like anyone else has thought of doing this lately. :P

Just a mere 10 hours on this luminance channel so far. I have been chasing down a weird interference pattern caused by an EM source in my observatory. So while chasing that down I thought I would use NGC253 as the test subject.

Great detail Paul.

Are you using the truss GSO RC ?

Thanks guys.

Yes I am using a GSO RC truss.

Excellent Paul, the dust lanes are sharp as, youve got the GSO tuned well.

Looks like an excellent start there Paul!

Is this full frame? Not seeing any sign of residual curvature.

Thanks Freddo. Still some bugs to fix yet, but trying to image along the path to perfection.

Yep full frame and with a flattener. I used a TS 3" RC flattener. I have resampled the image down to 2800 wide, but only to make for a slightly more pleasing view.

Looks like that flattener is working a treat. Those stars look perfect!

I've got 3 hours with the same framing so will be interesting to compare results :D mine will have to wait till the next new moon though. Work & travel.

Yeah I have stopped for this cycle too. Now doing NB on another target. The flattener is working ok but needs some tweaking yet. Yes it will be interesting to compare, though I doubt a 5K scope is much of a comparison to a 20K scope.

was going to say did you shoot that with a cannon but i know you didnt :)

nice photon fodder

Paul,
Astonishingly sharp detail in the outer parts of the galaxy. Superb! Can't see the wabbit yet.

Best,
Mike

10 hours of luminance? Unnecessary IMHO but it's a top image.

Cheers

Nice Image, and gives me a good idea of what I can espect of my new 12" GSO RC... Although I am still fighting with triangular shaped stars...

Paul,
That looks fantastic! Is the EM present in that shot? I don't really know what I should be looking for.

Great image Paul, you seem to have that scope sorted! Can't wait do see the colour version.

Thanks guys.

The GSO is slowly getting there. I am still struggling with getting RA guiding right. The Dec is a near flat perfect line but he RA wanders up and down a little, leaving slightly elongated stars. I am planning on doing PEC with prempro as I think the SB software does not work well with the southern hemisphere.

I also need to change the back plate of the scope over to the new system. That means changing out the mirror and recollimating the scope. As well as getting another adapter made up.

I still don't think the collimation is 100% in any event and I need to be a pick more finicky with that.

Yes the EM was present I this shot Trent and can be vaguely seen if you look hard enough.

Not to make this thread about PEC, but is this with your ME or MX Paul. SB PEC has worked wonders with my ME.

Congratulations on another fabulous image from Clayton to!

Just spent 10 minutes doing a side-by-side of your image and Marcus' image. Just amazing stuff. You guys should share data like Rolf and Mike did. :D

This is with my MX Josh. I have tried PEC via SB and it just makes the problem worse. I admit I am having trouble nulling this issue out. I did change the guide rate to much higher and that had an impact in a positive way. I am tempted to check the placement of the worm gear again to ensure I have not made an error in installing the new gear.

While I am not averse to the idea, I think my data is not as good as Marcus's. My star shapes are a little eggy compared to his image.
