Excellent doco last night on the Cheylabinsk meteor. It may be a repeat, but it's worth a look on SBS On Demand:

Watching it right now, thank for the tip!
My old man gave me a call last night to tell me it was on, wasn't a bad show, some new(for me) footage that I hadn't seen trawling YouTube just after the event.

I was surprised that the meteor was that big - 10,000 tons and 17 x 14 metres or so in size. Wow. Lucky it was a stone one and not a metal one.

As astronomers we should all have dash cams. I have one, and it doubles as a backup for insurance purposes.
After investigating a few big fireball events recently, I was unable to obtain any dash cam or security cam footage. Either nobody in the area used dash cams, all the security cameras were pointing at the ground, or I couldn't gain access through QLD/VIC police for the footage.
Do us all a favour and install a dash cam. If there's a Chelyabinsk-type event in this country we'll need the footage!

I watched it was amazing what they could learn just from the dash-cams
Might go get one there cheap enough now !
