Hi,

The Trifid and it's background has always been tricky to balance.
In this image I've processed to make both in balance, or at least the way I perceive it should be after looking at many images.

The combination of ISO 6400 and 1600 seems to be a good combination bringing out fainter details and giving richness to the colour palette.

I'd love some input on this image, do you think I achieved the right balance.

8" F/4 astrograph HEQ pro 5 mount. Orion mini guider.

Unmodded canon 1100D, baader type III coma corrector.

30 x 2 minute subs, ISO 6400 and 12 x 5 minute ISO 1600 and 5 x 2 minute ISO 800 . Stacked in DSS, processed in Photo shop Cs2..

Cheers,

Justin.

Very rich, nicely done Justin

Do you not see lots of noise with the 1100D at ISO6400?

Thanks Peter!

Thanks Dunk!

I'm running a cooler box which helps, but 2 minute seems perfect for ISO 6400. Any longer and the sub gets swamped with light, shorter and colour noise becomes a problem.

Thanks Laurie!

Cheers,

Justin.

Might have to bump up to 6400 and see what happens. I'm building my own cooler.

If you make a cooler box, make it is light as possible.
I'm on the limit with the my setup, gets tricky to balance.

Good luck with construction.

Cheers,

Justin.

Well everything seems to work for you with a DSLR Justin. It's another fine shot. Might be a bit too magenta though.

Cheers

Nice work Justin.

You've managed to get a lot of the blue out. Looks great.

For the 1100D 10-C seems to be the starting point at the chip for relatively noise free subs.
The cooler box is handy but not well designed, this is my second. The internal fan gives up, I've replaced it but it will need replacing again soon.

At best it cools to 17-C below ambient, at the moment its only 12-C below.

Thanks Louie!

Thanks Steve!

Does look a tad magneta in the background.

Thanks Ray!

Thanks Rick!

Yeh I know  a bit slack on that front.

Thanks Ross!

Thanks Kevin!
The cooler box weighs 1.105 kgs, the main problem with that is most of the weight is behind the camera.
Again an aspect of this coolers box design I don't like.

Thanks Goran!

:thanx: Lewis!

Justin.
