Hi all
Google Earth has updated its imagery, Im astounded at the detail now. I found not only my place, but my covered telescope mount is just visible (arrowed). Wider images included as well as the Newcastle Astro Society local viewing venue a few Kms awy from my place , see the circular mown area on disused Waterboard land.
How about we keep this thread going with "your place from space", use Google Earth (needs broadband to work) to find your place, or a place of interest and post it here :)

Google Earth is amazing stuff.
I was up till 4AM recently just finding all the places I've lived.
It's also good to find out the latitude and longitude of your observing spot.

Is the attached image from a commercial version of Google Earth? It seems to have more detail than the free version (4 beta) that I've been using.

If you know your latitude and longitude just go to
http://maps.google.com
and type it in the search maps box.
For my place cut and paste
-28.8146, 153.0706
The quality varies from place to place.

Just typing in Kulnura, Australia , worked for me.
Someone who knows the area could refine this down to the actual observing site.

Very kind of you people to show exactly where your valuable scopes are kept.. Is this not a bit risky?
Google Earth is awesome, way bettet than the old Nasa worlwind. I have been using GE and maps.google.com to give people directions etc.
Also they have added a street map overlay at maps.google.com for Australia, so you can see the names of the roads etc. Soon it will do directions. Has anyone been able to get these road maps to come up in GE, it does this for US but not for Australia. Also the magnification of GE can go higher than map.google.com
