there was a predicted transit of the moon by the ISS for the 27 September 2014 at exactly 19h00m39.26s by CalSky.
I haven't done anything since pulling down the dome back in July. so after realising that the centre line of the event was not far from me (within 9km). so i set off quickly with the canon60D, the polarie head and my slik tripod to a remote section of road at Black Hill. i only had my 200mm lens - the rest of the astro gear is packed up and stored. anyway its nothing special
Crosses the disk of Moon. Separation=0.245° Position Angle=323.9°, Position angle vertex=203.1°. Transit duration=0.44s
Angular diameter=25.2" size=109.0m x 73.0m x 27.5m
Satellite at Azimuth=267.0° W Altitude= 18.4° Distance=1097.1 km Magnitude=0.1mag
In a clock-face concept, the satellite will seem to move toward 2:14
Angular Velocity=18.4'/s

Beautiful! You got nice and close to the centreline, Dave. I think I just happened the see the tail end of that pass from here.

Thats great. If i stayed home it would have only just crossed the moon on the dark side. I ended up being 300m from the centreline point, close enough as it was in private property. So just goes to show how accurate CalSky is. Starry night pro had it missing the moon. I really wished i has a bigger boat ;)
LOL, and I was watching "Jaws" the other night.....
That's a great capture Davo, so cool that you went "out on location".
I like the 200mm FOV, gives a nice perspective.

Nice. The suspense was killing me David. A whole 19 seconds before it comes into view! Masterly film-making :-)

yeah it does and the fact the moon is such a cynamic range it was hard to decide on the exposure. knowing the ISS would be bright. it was focussedon a dimmer moon then upped the exposure before hittingthe video setting- the first time i have used the video on the 60D
thanks Phil - would have liked that other black camera you have ;)
thanks very much
yeerss nothing like commentary - i am no attenborough but i was happy to be doing some astro
was waiting for Dave to speak:lol:

thanks Jakob
it would have been good if a few people managed to get the same shot from different locations to show the positional difference of the ISS in relation - then play them all at once
thanks Mike, i hadnt done anything astro since June/July so this was a break out to get motivated - next week the lunar eclipse:thumbsup:
