Has anybody noticed any significant drop in their power bill after the carbon tax was taken off? My rates haven't moved. Energy Australia raised them back in June by approx. 10%. Now I got my last bill covering July to September for the quarter. Rates are unchanged, same as last financial year. I did get a 'Carbon cost saving' of $4.02 for the period though. Same consumption as last bill. 10kWh. Confused. My understanding was drop both for electricity and gaz in the ball park of 8 to 10%.

I got a letter from AGL stating a 5.2% reduction? The government had better stick by their word. SA has the highest power charges in Australia. I want my 4.8%
They'll get around it by increasing tarrifs

I thought about this too but they increased the rates before the repeal so the new rates should have gone down, not stayed. Will check the previous bills next week and do a couple of phone calls.

Switch to a cheaper retailer and/or install solar panels.

Rates are as low as I can get them. Solar installation doesn't make sense in my situation as installation and maintenance costs would outweight consumption, for the time I'll live here anyway. So it wouldn't make sense financially.

My power co sent a letter stating the reduction will appear on my Q4 bill. New rate commences mid September and will be back dated to 1st July so a credit will appear. Will be carefully checking ;)

Interesting. Let us know if your rates drop.

AGL sent me a cheque for $17.00, being a refund backdated to July 1st

That's pretty much in line with what I got back. Did your rates drop or did they send you any correspondence saying they would in the near future?

They are all shonky, raise the rates just before the so called repeal of the carbon tax to offset the rate drop, so in effect I got a net increase in rates of around 1c/kwh once the carbon tax rebate was taken into account. It is all done with smoke and mirrors, in their favor of course:mad2:

I received an sms from AGL at the end of August saying they estimated NSW customers like me would save an average of 7.8% after the repeal.

I'm just looking at my latest bill which has 66 days last financial year, before the price change (the price change is noted on my bill), and 29 days this FY.

The price per kWh before is $0.2644, and the price after is $0.249.
The "Supply Charge" before is $0.6807 per day and $0.71 per day after.

A quick calculation based on my average usage puts me about 3.4% better off.

My calculations put solar at a 15% p/a ROI tax free. Can't get money that easily anywhere else for the level (or lack thereof) risk.

One thing to be aware of if considering solar is that the retailers charge higher rates for solar customers than non-solar customers, so it's not worth getting a 1.5 KW system for most households. You need a system big enough to cover your biggest load, which might mean a 3 or 4 KW system to cover air conditioning.

I/we got a nice surprise note earlier in the week from the caravan park manager.
The rates went from 29 c/kWh to 22 c/kWh.....

But, then on Friday there was another note saying that they had now introduced
an "Electrical Service Fee" of $4.50 / month.

Not sure how much difference it will all make, judging by the small amount of electricity I use
:).

No changes for me, still the same price at the moment.

Strewth!! This thread prompted me to check my own bills.
June 2014 rates were 26.73 (plus 10% GST) but September 14 they were 29.415 (plus GST) - an increase of 10%. But the hot water rate jumped by 22% and the daily "Supply Charge"went up a massive 74.4% from 50.29 cents a day tom 87.58 cents.
They promised an 8% reduction flowing through in October but when these rises are factored in, it is apparent that any reductions have been offset by incrases ahead of the sacking of the carbon tax and in fact, the 74% increase in the daily supply charge has in effect brought on an increase of 2.49 cents / kwh (on our consumption levels) or, in other words, an increase of another 10%. The result is an increase of about 10% overall despite the repeal.

Holy mackerel - and this is from Click Energy - the so-called price-buster supplier here in SE Qld.

What the heck is going on?

Peter

Pete, I think they are taking you for a ride. Time to reevaluate your terms.

Aurora in Tasmania gave back about &%, so they say... The rest went in network costs, which proves it was a B.S. deal and we gotta duped, yet again. To top it off, we have a huge hydro system and the sate stands to lose over 100Million if the RET is trashed by numbnut and co

Seems like the preemptive rates rise in June was to accommodate for the planned drop in July but still the rates now should be the same as the rates before the June rise or close to that. My rates haven't changed a bit. All I got is an extra deduction pre GST of 4 bucks. Not what I was expecting. I'll be on the phone on Monday having a chat then a couple of emails and try to figure out what's going on. No doubt the same BS is happening across the board regardless of who supplies, which deep down we all knew would happen...

And the merry go round keeps spinning! But we are so much better off!

Sorry! Just should have read the post and moved on!

Will wait next bill. They're in the process of splitting gas and electricity which is an update in their billing system so it's all over the place at the moment. I don't know about gas yet but next power bill drop will be around 2c/kWh (~7.84%) backdated from 1st of July probably implemented mid September onwards, SAG stays. Will be interested to see what others get in other states. These figures are NSW only anytime fixed rate.
