Yesterday when I was driving, I witnessed a daylight bolide. I was located close to Caloundra at the time - the elevation when it first became visible was about 45° and it was headed roughly SSE - time was roughly 11am. Quite bright naturally to see it during daylight hours.

Coincides with the run of bolides over the USA the last couple of days. Seems we have crossed paths with something :)

That's a really cool sighting Lewis.

That's one thing I've yet to experience.

Hi Lewis,

When driving back on a Sunday afternoon from the South Pacific Star Party
several years back, Mai and I witnessed a bright bolide as we passed through the
area of Galston in Sydney's north-west.

Later when talking to Mark Suching, who lives only a few km from us,
he too was making his way back from the star party and said he witnessed it too.

Given how bright it was at 4pm, heaven's knows how bright it would have
been if it had come in at night.

Several years back we drove to Nyngan to view the Leonids and it was
such as spectacular shower that we were still observing them well
after sunrise. One left a vapour trail that morning that hung there for
well over half an hour before it finally dissipated.
