Hi,

I recently image NGC 6744 and comet Siding Springs at ISO 6400 and was surprised at the result.
I chose M17 and surroundings as the test.

Well I'm even more surprised, it's come up well.:)

This is 28 x 2 minute subs at 6400, I did 5 x 2 minute ISO 800 for the core of the nebula.
Surprising lack of noise.
I did use the cooler box as it was reasonably warm, which has effected the stars due to the weight of the cooler which has flexed the coma corrector.
I know it's this now as I've recently beefed up the focuser and there's no flex there.

Anyway I'll be using ISO 6400 more in future.

8" F/4 astrograph HEQ pro 5 mount. Orion mini guider.

Unmodded canon 1100D, baader type III coma corrector.

28 x 2 minute subs, ISO 6400 and . Stacked in DSS, processed in Photo shop Cs2..

Cheers,

Justin.

Wow, that's superb. Love the colours and the subtle misty reflection nebulas.

You've got a nice formula there.

Very nice work Justin. I really like the star colours. Detail is great and whole field is beautifully rendered. Well done.

A great looking photo Justin.

Nice detail and I love the colours.

Your processing is excellent!

As to using 6400 iso, when I was imaging with my Canon 350d and 1000d, I found that varying the iso from 400 to 1600 made very little difference to the final photo.

Glad you like it.

Thanks Ross!

Yes I was surprised how little difference there is to lower ISO images.
I was always reluctant to use the bogey man of ISO's.:scared:
Not now it's my new best friend.:)

Cheers,

Justin.

That's one of the best colour renditions of this object I've seen for a long time Justin. Lovely depth and nuance to the colour and very natural looking - nice job!

Thanks Simon!

I have some ISO 1600 data I will post later, I've also combined it with my 6400 image which I'll also post.

Cheers,

Justin.

I would sey experiment perfectly concluded, a great M17, almost difficult to believe it was obtained with an unmodded camera!

Thanks Marco!

There's quite a lot of data in a single 2 minute ISO 6400 sub, dark skies really help.

Thanks Louie!

Justin.
